About Southtown Music Studio

Southtown Music Studio was created as a place to explore, get creative and expressive with music.  A music lesson with us covers typical music education content combined with our unique philosophy of mindfulness and mentorship. Music can provide us with everyday life skills such as stress management, learning to listen, learning to communicate, collaborating with others, focus, discipline, playing and having fun.  These are valuable skills and worth investing in at any age.

At Southtown Music Studio, we try to encourage music for process over performance and consider musical practice to be a meditation and life skill. We teach musical listening and understanding and try our best to create a space that circumvents comparison and competition. With that in mind it’s important to know that Southtown Music Studio does not hold regular recitals, but instead we create opportunities for students to make music with (and for) each other such as sing-alongs, group workshops or helping students find performances within the broader community.  Nevertheless, we LOVE performing and can help coach performance skills with a healthy mindset when a student DESIRES to perform.  This is a mindful decision we have made due to so many students (espeically adults) who have lasting trauma from childhood recitals or music class. By not forcing students of any age into recitals, we are trying to not add to this common scar and also love helping adults work through this and regain their love for music playing.  Southtown Music Studio is a place to foster musical interest, creativity, expression, appreciation and understanding.
